I want to support the #blacklivesmatter movement. But as a super white, super privileged looking human, I was keen on how to show my support in the most respectful way. Though I was happy to contribute to the cause financially, I also wanted a way to show my support publically. Wearing a shirt printed with a powerful fist, or an aggressive slogan against the police (though everyone has a right to wear what they please) just isn't my cup of tea. And when I get sad and sick of all of this crap and ready to throw up my hands, (like in this photo ) I remember that I made a promise to myself to be an ally. Through thick or thin. And this shirt reminds me of that promise. And I am proud to wear it to marches, and hikes, and yoga class, and visits with my secretly racist friends, and anywhere else humans may be. My only request would be to see a hand printed option- on a softer, more sustainable fabric. Maybe even made in the USA? By a black and/or female and/or LGBTQA owned factory? That would be heaven. My little likes to steal my clothes, and a shirt like this is something I would love to pass down to her. And she will know the story of why & by whom it was made. And what it meant to me to wear it.
